Activities :

Instead of a quiz - Try a challenge !!

We bought some cheap 35 piece kids Jigsaws - And gave one to each 'team' - First team to complete it wins - Trick is to take 3 pieces out of each puzzle - And half way though tell then they are missing & that they have to come to you to try & find them (One at a time !!!) - A great laugh

Another was to hand out a set of Dominoes to each team & see who can build the highest tower !!! or have a Paper Plane making/flying competition !!!!!

A popular one is to get a map of the USA with the States on it - Give them the first letter of the State & they have to name them all - Surprising how difficult it can be - But it is fun

Try a Countdown Conundrum - Handing each table an envelope with jumbled letters of a one or two Linedances - First team to complete them wins !!!!

Write the names of 20 dances on 20 A4 sheets of paper - But have 40 sheets in all because you have each dance twice - Shuffle them up & spread them on the dance floor face down - You have to turn one over then try to find the match with the next turn - If you don't you have to turn both sheets back face down - If they match you take them away - Keep going until all gone - Team with the fastest time wins !!!

What next - Still thinking !!!!!!??????

Other Fun Ideas :

Dance Request Challenge !!! - When someone asks for the selected dance (You pick it in advance & put it at the top of the sheet) - You hand over the sheet - And tell the whole room it's now up to this person/table/group to come up with a county dance, an oldie dance & answer the question right or they don't get to do it !!!! You need to pick some of the big floor-fillers - And/or some of the red hot newest ones -- And then you play the two requests - And the dance that is the question ---- Then the one they really want !!! A great way of having a bit of fun as well as forcing a mix of old/new & pop/country requests

Killer Quiz !!! - Give everyone an answer sheet with room for 10 answers - Get them all to stand up - Ask the questions & if they get it wrong they have to sit down - Make some of the questions 'killer' ones where they must give exactly the right answer - Make other answers acceptable within a range to give them a chance - You need trivia sort of questions with numbers, years, percentages etc. as the answers - Or multiple choice - Or obvious fixed choice such as Left/Right, North/South/East/West etc. -- And don't forget a Tie-Breaker question - A hard one where closest to the right answer wins.

Linedance Bingo !!! - At the start of the evening give everyone a sheet & ask them to write down the dances that they think will be pleased (On my sheet I ask for 9 - 3 lines of 3) - You could give them a possible 'Play List' to help - Small fun prizes for a the lines and/or full house - Everyone just marks their own - So you'll have to trust them !!!! They just shout out bingo to claim their prize

2 for 1 Challenge !!! - Hand out a request slip that requires a double request - That you play back to back - To encourage a good mix of music/dances - I ask for them to pick a choreographer - Then for that choreographer pick two dances ----Either a Country & Non-Country one -- Or a New one & an oldie - Good fun - Again you could offer a small prize if you play them and just do it for maybe a 30-45 min slot during the night (Or spread them out through the night)

Play Your Joker !!! - As well as request slips, put a few 'Play Your Joker' sheets out - I put one on each table - Tell everyone this is the way to get something played they are really desperate to do - I say I'll always play a Joker withing 3 dances of receiving it - A fun angle - But for me it means I know for sure that no-one goes home cussing that I'm not played something they really really wanted to dance !!!

Spot Prizes !!! - Some nights I do 3 or 4 spot pize questions - Always dance related - Just ask them a question in between dances - First one to write it down & bring it up wins a spot prize - Usually easy so there's a fight for who gets to me first

Small prizes are usually just some sort of sweets or chocolates - About £1 each or something like that

Door Prizes !!! - We always do a draw - Winning prize two tickets to another social/event - But now & then try turning this into a little fun competition - Draw say 3 tickets & get them to do a challenge of some sort - For example we've done making balloon models !!, racing torpedo type balloons, putting puzzles together etc - You can try loads of fun challenges !!!!!
