My weekly 'Dances Taught' Update .........

First off a huge thanks to everyone who came to my birthday bash weekend - To everyone that helped throughout the weekend - To the choreographers who came to teach & party - And to all the dancers - I had the time of my life with a room full of dancing friends - A fun weekend I will remember forever - The best ever for me by far ----- Thanks too to all those who have sent best wishes via card, email & text for my 50th - Thank you all very much - You are all awesome & I'm proud to have you as friends ......................

Beginner dance this week was Steve Lescarbeau's Wagon Wheel - Another really cool beginner dance out of JG2 which caught my eye there - Really catchy country track & a cool dance - We had fun mastering the 3/4 unwind but that's what it's all about - They finally got it & really enjoyed it - Others going well are Duck Soup, Higher & Higher & My Veronica ........ Going to get back to some of the all-time classics soon, but still keen to try out Dan Albro's Cowboy Cowboy & Christopher Petre's Wanna Have Fun too.

On Tuesday we've had a request to catch up with a couple of dances going well on the social scene in the area that we've not done - Last week it was Peter & Alison's El Mundo Bailando - And this week T&V's The Rain Came Down - Both really well received ................ All our Mainline dances from the Newcastle weekend are on the list - Already done Dee's lovely country nightclub That's The Day, Robbie's Cheeky Cha & Francien's Gotta Hitch - And planning to do Robbie's Keep It Up, Craig's Girl - And going to do Maggie's new waltz Gimme A Chance first off next week  - You've read about these already from Ryan's report ................... Other dances going really well on Tuesday include Sweet Perfume, Feed The Fetish, Gotta Hitch, Cheeky Cha, Irish Spirit, Like A Hero, Fire On Ice, When I Cry, Diamonds & Freedom Feels Like Lonely ............................. I want to thank MaggieG for writing the waltz specially for the weekend for me for the Mainliners.

On Wednesday - Hard work !! because we had our Guyton Nite last Wednesday & some other great Newline teaches at Newcastle too - So I had to learn some serious stuff before class - I was not foot perfect but I did manage to help everyone recap Guyton's lovely waltz Waiting, Niels's cool nightclub Take A Bow & Shaz's funky Fire - All big hit Newline teaches - Still to come from the weekend are Rob's Blood Money & Lady - And Guyton's hat dance Here We Go !! :-) ............. Although most had done the 3 new ones we did spend a long while cracking them, then just time for a quick recap of the latest Scott ones Keep It Real & Too Deep ... And Sweet Perfume too ........ Only time to social dance Boo-Taay which is really popular............................. I want to thank Shaz for writing something funky specially for the weekend for me for the Newliners.

Just heading off to Torquay now for a weekend with Andrew & Sheila, Pat Stott & Dee - Cya there if you are coming - Looking forward to a fun weekend ................ And I'll try to catch up with an update of my web-site too over the weekend - Sorry I've been a bit slow with that the last couple of weeks.

Next weekend come & see Rachael & M.T.Groove with hot new dances at our Sunday-Out on 13/7 - Sunday Noon-6.00pm at the Belvedere Club, Burton-On-Trent.

Just a reminder for Brits to check out joining us at the Worlds in Florida - Check it out - It's going to be awesome - The social dancing & workshops are just the best - And on Disney's doorstep too  - http://www.ucwdcworlds.com/ - There is also a Linedance Cruise leaving straight after Worlds that Pauline & I are going to take - Never been on a cruise before so that's going to be a special time too :-)

JG2 LINE DANCE MARATHON

MAY 29 - JUNE 1, 2008

Thursday

Jumping ahead to Thursday evening the dances that were being danced lots in the various rooms from the Thursday teaches - And so for me the hit teaches of the day were ....

-Daniel's Chilli Hot taught by Dee
-Kate's Mercy taught by Pepper

As well as these, others from the day already quite popular & even more so because of the teaches were ....

-Paul's Bring It taught by Nigel
-Maggie's Irish Spirit taught by John Robinson
-Paul's Phenomenon taught by Guyton
-Any's Boo-Taaay taught by Nigel
-So Glamorous taught by Christopher Petre
-Debbie's Amore De Hielo taught by Gerard Murphy

Nigel chilling after a great teach of Bring It !! :-)

The one that particularly caught my eye & the biggest floor filler for sure on the evening was Simon's cool waltz The Smell Of Your Sweet Perfume taught by Lou Ann - Most definitely 'the dance of the moment' I'd say here in the States - The floor was full in the big room - Lou Ann also taught Maggie's lovely nightclub Could It Be You to a good crowd - I did two Maggie dances too in my workshop, Need No Other & Never A Thought - Cool traditional country dances - I really enjoyed my first ever JG2 teach & thanks so much to those that came to it !! :-)

Lou Ann with Could It Be You & John with Irish Spirit

One of the biggest classes was a packed room with Nigel for Shaz's awesome dance Pick Up My Stroll, which loads of folk have a buzz about & one of my own favourites Niel's Miss You 2 was a hit teach by Neville to close the day.

Many of you will have heard of all these dances - But two new ones for me that caught my eye were a cool traditional 64/2 Intermediate country two-step taught by KathyH called Love's Moved by Wes Smith - Really nice dance ............ And for me the 'Dance Of The Day' - Because it's new & cool is Andrew Long's 32/4 Intermediate dance All This Talk taught by Maurice, one which CarolC has already recommended on the lists a few weeks back & which I really did enjoy dancing big time.

Dance of the Day : All This Talk (Andrew Long)

Friday

Just started Saturday - What a great event this is ............ Just took Scott's class for his new Phrased/Advanced 8&1 cha cha Keep It Real - This really is another Scott classic for all the fans of the likes of Break Free Cha - A packed room struggled but just about got it by the time-up 50 mins - Scott wins quote of the day already ........ "Once you get it it's no big deal" !!!!! :-) - Scott's dance Too Deep yesterday was a big hit too - That's a more modest 32/4 Scott classic - More Feed The Fetish stuff (Which by the way probably already wins the award for the most played/requested dance of the weekend !! :-)  ..............

Biggest stress of my life was demoing our new dance Searchin' - I was so nervous but everyone was really nice & thanks to Dee for going out there & doing it with me - She helped the crowd see some of Shaz's sexy moves !!! :-) ............

It was cool to see Guyton's new mega hip-hop one which he demo'd with Will Craig - Think ultimate Guyton - And if you like that you'll love this one when you see it .......... It's got a cap move in it - And everyone who takes the class is getting a free Guyton cap for that bit - Awesome .................................... Guyton's new waltz Waiting is mega cool & was a big hit yesterday - It's 'Angel' cool.

Dee's doing a great job too & back to Friday one of the hits of the day for sure was her dance Fade-Away - 140 people packed out the workshop & it seemed like most of them were back for a quick recap when we did it at around midnight during the social dancing - I was really pleased for her - Loads keeping up with Daniel's Chilli Hot which she taught Thursday too ................ It's so difficult to write a good report without being a long one !!!! because there so many cool new dances by the friendliest bunch of choreographers you could wish to meet  - But I don't have time to write a long one just now !! - The atmosphere was just great last night as the choreographers all milled around & every now & then we did a quick recap - I'm going to write later with some news of some great new dances that went really well - Beginner thru Advanced & Country thru Pop - A great mix with truly some hot prospects for everyone ................................

......................Got to go DJ but I'll be back with the cool new dances in a few hours !!!! :-) .......... I'll give you a clip from my playlist too - But it reflects Carol's weekly survey results so well - I always use that to make sure I'm ready to DJ in the States & it never lets me down.

========================

Ok I'm back for a while !! ........ I'm working here so I can't get to see everything - So if I miss any good stuff anytime sorry in advance - Can't catch all the workshops & I was DJing in the 2nd ballroom all evening, so again I can only rave about the ones folk asked me for & those where the choreographer joined us during the evening to dance them - We had a fun night & folk were milling round all evening until the early hours with Louie/DJ Jam in the main ballroom, myself/Tim in another & Debi/Gale in another - Huge crowd - Lovely evening ..........................

Cato Larsen is here & doing great - His dances are going well - Of course we danced Burning, but his fun dance Chicken Rodeo was just pure fun & much requested - Also Tired Of Being Sorry (Neat Cha Cha) & Am I (A lovely easy smooth rumba) - Loads on the floor for all of these.

It was great to meet Christopher Petre for the first time - A fun gang & we particularly enjoyed his beaty & different dance Ramalama - Check it out !!! :-) ...... His cool dance to AJ's Good Times called Wanna Have Fun - What an awesome track too - One of the many cheap country albums I got from my Wal-mart visit !! :-)

Another hit which a crowd got to recap was Pam Leader's Lie In The Sun - A nice easy cool one I've got down for my Improver/plus crowd .......... I also enjoyed meeting Frank Trace & taking his class - His dance Duck Soup particularly caught my eye for my Improvers - A nice fun/feel-good East Coast - Likewise I met Steve Lescarbeau for the first time & took his class - And on the evening lots enjoyed his recap of a neat country triple two step (A cross between a Two-step & a cha-cha for me) called Wagon Wheel.

Gerard had a packed house for a cool new one called Take Me Away - Likewise KathyH for an equally cool one called Forgive Me - Check these cool intermediate ones out in particular ......... We also had a fun dance of Supermodelz from Gerard & Kathy too - You had to be there !!!!!!!! :-) ..............Max's Higher & Higher is a great one for the beginners - John Robinson's high impact version was cool !! :-) - His dances Smokin' Cha & Good To Be Back were popular too. Nancy's easy dance to 4 Minutes went well & we had a split floor as Nigel recapped Shaz's Pick Up My Stroll & Nancy 'Just Mad' & then danced both together.

Michael Barr's Make A Memory was much requested & loads danced that - Michael danced the night away & it was cool to do Doors Of Life with him too ............. The ever popular John Robinson is the life of the party here as ever too - Looking forward to working with John at MaggieG's Southort next March, we'll have fun there too - Lots of cool dances from everyone - Sorry I've not mentioned everyone - But from me special thanks for coming into my room & helping out the dancers remember them all. It was great to meet Will Craig whose dances are going well too & will be coming over to Newline 2009 !! :-) ............. It's been great to meet up with our good friends Zac & Maurice who are also teaching some great new stuff.

Then there was Dee's Fade-Away (A favourite of mine for ages), Scott's Too Deep & Guyton's Waiting - Already mentioned these & learning them already !! :-) .................. Neville/Julie released their new one Just Can't Stop which had a full workshop, but I've not seen that one myself yet - He also did Gangsta Paradise too ............. It's Murda was a hit social dance & Elevator which he's teaching today is already very popular too.

I'll get the sheets on my site asap Tuesday/Wednesday but email me if you need anything & I'll help if I can before that.

Did I mention everyone !!?? - I didn't - But well done to everyone teaching here & keeping more than maybe 600 dancers happy - Like I say I didn't see everything !!!! :-)

Wait until you see Guyton's new one !!! ........... I'll take a photo tonight & put it on the web - The 'Hat Dance' !!!! :-) ....... We'll be doing this one at our Guyton Nite back in Hinckley in just a few weeks time.

Dance of the Day : Fade-Away (Dee Musk) .................. And a funky Too Deep (Scott Blevins)

Saturday/Sunday

Mentioned a cool funky dance last time by Will Craig called What You Got - Neat dance & good to see it finish 3rd in the Pro-Choreography competition on Sunday - A much danced nightclub from Junior & Craig Faith In Love took 2nd place, a dance we have been enjoying in the UK since Craig taught it a the Maggie G Southport weekend - 1st place went to a dance that was a hit release back at the Linedancer Awards in February - Dee 's Footprints In The Sand - Well done to Dee.

Saturday was a sort of stress for me in particular because I had to demo Searchin' at 9am & then wait all day to teach it at 5pm - I was thrilled to get close to 100 people & I just managed to get through it in the 50 minutes - Timing is real strict !!! ...... I just want to thank Shaz very much for taking the time out to write it with me & for giving me a fighting chance of having something half decent to teach - And thank all those who came to the class - It was a great experience - Not planning to be a career choreographer mind you - Once a year will do & I'll stick to DJing !!! :-)

On Saturday the highlights for me were the two 'mega teaches' dare I say - First Scott with Keep It Real - Cool cha cha - Challenging phrasing but not too hard - And then Guyton with a funky hip-hop Here We Go - Like Scott's not too hard if you the sensible alternative to the 'down on the floor' moves !! :-) - But you do need a hat, which it was cool Guyton gave out to everyone who came to the class.

Asked around a lot on Sunday morning about the hit teaches from Saturday - Many mentioned Zac's new waltz In My Arms, which is a Newline style dance & Dee's lovely country nightclub That's The Day went really well, as did Maurice's Divas Niteclub which is another favourite of mine ......... Actually there were loads of cool new waltz's & nightclubs on the Saturday. Some really neat intermediate/mainstream dances which many complemented included Junior's You Drive Me Crazy (Great track from Dolly), Cato's She Danced (Lovely Waltz), Max's Take It To The Heart (Clever mix of Nightclub & Cha Cha from the master), Christopher Petre's Late In The Evening (Cool samba), Neville/Julie's Elevator (Funky) & Dan Albro's Good Time Jackson (Another dance to AJ's Good Times).

JP Potter taught a dance of his which I'm told by many is a bit of a classic here in the States called Everlast (To Everlasting Love) - Not come across this one before myself & don't recall it ever being done in the UK, but for me high if not top of my Mainline teach list with my Tuesday class when I get back - This is not news for many US dancers then, but I'd really recommend it to UK instructors to check out - It's not new, but it's a great dance .................... Another oldie that we did do was Sycopated Love - We danced this with Dan & it reminded me just how cool it is & that we need to do that one again real soon - Needless to say we danced lots of oldie/classics with lots of choreographers over the weekend - Like Blue Finger Lou with Max, Now Or Never with Kathy, Crabbuckit, Do It & The Way with Gerard, Under Your Spell with Bracken, Keep It Burning, Slowburn & Dangerous with John Robinson, Little Star with Zac/Maurice, Butter Beans with Christopher, Gravity with Bryan, Doors Of Life with Michael & Burning with Cato - A whole bunch of Scott & Guyton classics too .......... Based on the popularity of their dances in social dancing I think that the JG2 crowd would also love to see the likes of Rachael, Paul, Maggie, Robbie, Kate, T&V, Shaz & Craig from across the pond to name but a few !! :-), although they'll get the opportunity to see them all somewhere in the States in 2008/9 I'm sure.

Dance of the Day : Keep It Real (Scott Blevins) ............. Lots of great Beginner thru Intermediate ones too

If you want to see Scott's new dances he is heading off to the UK this week - You can see him at Nigel's class at Lakeside, Frimley Green, Wharf Road on Sunday 3-11pm & after that at MaggieG's class in Coventry on the Wednesday - I think he is at Rob Fowler's class on Monday or Tuesday too - Contact Carol Baker about that via Rob's web-site - And if you fancy the MaggieG one you could get the details from George Crutchlow.

If you want to see Guyton's new dances you can see them if you are coming to our Newcastle weekend at the end of June, but just before that Guyton will be teaching them at our 'Ultimate Guyton Nite' at Hinckley on Wednesday June 25th - We'll also be reviewing a few classic Guyton dances with the help of Dan, Shaz & M.T.Groove who are each picking one to recap on the evening - We'll also dance all the latest Newline hits too !! :-) ..................... And you'll get a Guyton hat as well !!!! :-)

Danish Newliners have got the two new dances from Scott to look forward too real soon - Also Neville/Julie's two new ones ............... So after a little workshop here in Tucson on Friday/Saturday & some chill time, we are looking forward to finishing our time away with that in just two weeks time. I'm teaching Scott's Too Deep on Friday in Tucson - It's a great track & a classic cool dance - The other one is much harder but equally classic & cool, but I'm on vacation so M.T.Groove are working on that one to teach at our Wednesday Newline class & I'll try to catch up with it when I get back - Or make sure I take the class this time with Scott in Denmark even instead of lazing behind the DJ booth !! :-)

Thanks to Jean & James for the invite to DJ - To Pepper for encouraging me to write a dance to teach - And to Louie, Jam & Tim who I really enjoyed working with again as we did back at Worlds -  It was a great experience & I look forward to going back next year - 28-31 May 2009 - It really is something special & if you've not been have a think about coming along too - Next year Dee & Shaz are there & will hopefully be coming for some chill time with us in Tucson afterwards, so if it all works out it will be Shaz, Dee, myself at Carolyn's Tucson workshop the week after 5/6 June 2009 if we can sort the venue ------------- And again the week after that Danish Newline 12-14 June 2009 - This is a great event too & one to check out if you like the the Newline scene - Contact Niels for this one.
